About Us
Hos-Bed-Able had its beginning in an “aha” moment during a home health visit by the creator, Angela DeLong, PT.
The client, a highly educated, talented and independent geriatric individual had fallen and suffered an injury in her large home.
The outcome was that she had to be moved very suddenly from her home to another city to be near her only caregiver, her son.
She was moved into a one room apartment in an assisted living facility. Her furnishings included a hospital bed, TV tray at bedside for a nightstand, a small dining table for a place to eat and double as her desk and a chair.
Angela was working with the lady on her physical therapy treatment when she asked Angela to straighten the beach towel that was on the footboard of the hospital bed. The lady was very impatient with Angela as she exclaimed, “Can’t you see that it is not straight!” The towel had a beach theme on it. Angela was taken back until she realized that the lady was trying to “soften” the starkness of the hospital bed with the scene.
It was then that Angela realized that others, who must have a hospital bed now in their room/home, might also like to be able to personalize the bed.
Angela, realizing there is often a need for necessities to be within reach of one in the bed, especially those who are bedbound or less mobile, added the pocket and obtained the US patent. Hos-bed-able covers were born!
Angela DeLong graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1975 and is still working as a Physical Therapist in TexasT.
She has worked in 3 states in multiple settings, from large acute care hospitals, small rural hospitals, assisted to independent living facilities, acute care rehabilitation hospitals and home health care.
She is a wife, loving mother, and dog grandma to a spunky Border Collie, Lola!
